What is hip bursitis?
Hip bursitis is the pain caused due to inflammation of the bursae. It is a small semi-solid jelly-like sac located at every major joint throughout the body. It contains fluid and is present between bone and soft tissues to decrease friction.
The bursae inflame due to several reasons, but when it becomes irritated and inflamed, it results in hip pain known as hip bursitis.
The common cause of bursitis is repetitive action and activities that results in pressure on the bursae around the joint. It may include throwing a baseball, running sideways in tennis, or natural body changes of pregnancy. Standing off to one side and weight gain can also cause hip bursitis. Sometimes other minor causes can add to the pain, such as injury or trauma of soccer or football.
The primary sign of bursitis is pain ‘one finger localization’ on the side of the hip (without trauma or a fall!) Initially, it is minor but gets severe and sharp over time. The most common symptom includes pain in central area of the hip and while lying on the affected side. It is also diagnosed due to pain when you stress the hip, walk upstairs and get in and out of the car.
